before i knew the name

now that it’s all gone
now that there is nothing left
now that it has all been stripped away
tie me up and stop the ache
the emptiness
rubber walls are good
for me to bounce on
straight jackets for the not so straight
it was easier
before i knew the name
of this empty longing ache
sometimes it slips a little past the point
of my ability to control
but i don’t live
in could have been
anymore
